We all strive to be fashionable, stylish and trendy but what does being ‘fashionable’ really mean? Without a doubt, the term is objective and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Of course, Urban Dictionary simplifies the word to make it universally understood but in reality, fashion does not have a definition. Whenever I talk about fashion, I am talking about my personal definition of the word in the hopes that some will agree. To me, fashion is more than just a word, it is a way of life and who ever chooses to live in such lifestyle is a fashionista.
This style of life consists of living outside the lines of a stereotypical ‘fashionista’ taboo where only wearing couture is acceptable and everything has to come from a big price tag. If these are the general thoughts of a fashionista, then the actual meaning to me is exactly the opposite. Personally, I choose to believe that fashionistas are people of all ages who embodies an irresistible presence and a open minded personality, while looking fabulous. And fashionistas understand that looking fabulous doesn’t mean only wearing couture but a mixture of everything. A cross between a retail store and then a thrift store. A true fashionable person doesn’t let clothes ‘make’ them, they ‘make’ the clothes.
A perfect example of a true fashionista is Holly Golightly, from the movie ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. All her outfits didn’t look high fashion but because she has a charismatic, electric, eccentric and unique personality and view on life, she looked extremely high fashion. And frankly, if you think you’re a fashionable person, then you are a fashionista. You don’t need external validation to prove your fashionable existence. So live life according to your stylish rules and help stitch the fashionista love.
StyleCaster.com wrote about the habits of fashionistas and I completely agree with their fashion views. I love to shop literally everywhere, from Goodwill to Topshop.
Fashion comes from literally everywhere; it comes from within!
